We are very happy to share that work by Yuan Cao and Sumeet Dash has been accepted for poster presentation at BAIOSPHERE Medical 2026, taking place in Erlangen, Germany, on 8–9 June 2026.
Both Yuan and Sumeet joined our group only recently (Feb and Mar this year), making this a really exciting achievement and a great start to their work with us. Their projects contribute to our broader efforts to develop robust and clinically meaningful AI tools for quantitative brain MRI analysis, with a focus on cerebrovascular imaging markers relevant to neurodegeneration, stroke, and dementia.

Congratulations to Yuan and Sumeet — we look forward to seeing their posters presented at BAIOSPHERE Medical 2026!
If you are around Erlangen during the conference, please stop by their posters and say hello — Yuan and Sumeet will be happy to discuss their work.
What are the abstracts about?

Cortical Superficial Siderosis (cSS)
Yuan’s first project investigates whether domain randomisation can support the automated segmentation of cortical superficial siderosis, a key MRI marker of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) and the strongest predictor of future intracerebral haemorrhage. Her early results are highly encouraging, pointing to a feasible route towards robust automated cSS quantification. This work brings together collaborators from the MIA Lab at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Cerebral microbleeds (CMB)
Sumeet’s first project applies a similar strategy, domain randomisation, to cerebral microbleeds, another important MRI marker of CAA that has been found associated with cognitive decline and stroke risk. His findings further support the potential of domain randomisation for developing robust automated tools to quantify haemorrhagic small vessel disease markers. This project is a collaboration between the MIA Lab at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
